Not to be missed.

Never before I have seen so many dream and concept cars in the same place ad the same time. This unique opportunity is offered by Torino 2008 World Design Capital and you must visit it before it closes on November 23.

For all details and a comprehensive introduction, go to http://www.torinoworlddesigncapital.it/portale/en/content_1.php?sezioneID=291&testoCompleto=1

Beware and please do not shoot the messenger: strangely enough, the exhibition closes at 6.20 p.m.

You also should not miss to get a copy of the Exhibition Catalogue currently on sale only in Italian but soon to be available also in English.

In fact, one of the many oddities of this exhibition is that the Catalogue does not exactly reflect the exhibition but also has a little bit more here and a little bit less there.

Take your time and take your camera with you. There is a lot to see, to study and to register. Through the day, the lighting of the wonderful hall designed and engineered by the famous Italian architect Luigi Nervi, which used to host the Turin Motor Show, is excellent. There is a lot of space, air and light so that one can fully enjoy seeing more than 50 prototypes created by the Turin carmakers, coachbuilders and enthusiasts.

Unfortunately the exhibition is not complete, with some works remarkable for their past and current trends, such as the Spada Coda Tronca or the first “fuoriserie” of the latest decade not present and often not even mentioned. We are3 talking here oif the “dreams for the road” presented by Stola and Studiotorino, which have anticipated the new vague of “fuoriserie”. Typical dream cars actually designed and built for the road, such as the Pininfarina Ferrari P4/5 and Hyperion. Not to mention many Zagatos of yesterday and today.

In this respect, the exhibition reflects the traditional culture of the Turinese coachbuilders.

As of today, we offer you a glance at the exhibits. Later on, we shall come back with additional information, naming of cars on show and update,

  • Nicola Materazzi

    Gentile Dottor Perini

Mi piacerebbe tantissimo potere mostrare a Lei. Grazie infinite!

  • scorpione

The latest articles on Dream Cars Torino & Jason Castriota were both excellent.

Following up on the dialogue with Ing. Materazzi, I recall that Road & Track magazine in USA once claimed that Bertone’s Lotus Emotion prototype was based on their earlier, rejected proposal for Bugatti EB110. Am wondering if this is actually correct. Another idea for a future article would be one on Marc Deschamps’ entire career, possibly including interview and discussion of his later, little-known work with Forma.T.

  • Nicola Materazzi

    Gentile Dottor Perini,

David Rodriguez. Very happy that this blog is working well as a bridge between readers. I am bit jealous though. Why don’t you share with us all your works?

  • http://autodesign.socialblog.us Giancarlo Perini

Dear Scorpione. Thank you for your kind comments. They help a lot to keep going. I think Road & Track was right, Indeed also Stile Bertone participated to the sort of “competition” for the reborn Bugatti later called EB 110. And as Lorenzo Ramaciotti told me recently: “design is like a pig: you do not waste anything of it.”
Marc Deschamps? You are perfectly right. Will do that one of these days. I need to talk to him again though and will have to find out where he is. Can anybody help?

  • David Rodriguez

Dear Mr. Perini and Mr. Materazzi,

I of course would be glad and very honoured to make you see my Bugatti related works. Please, let Mr. Materazzi contact me, and also, Mr. Perini, let me have you email address, so that I can show you both. Thank you.

    regards, d.

Forma.T srl is part of Tesco TS SpA, located right in Torino:
    http://www.tesco.it/contact/contact.php
(This is the latest info. I could find for Marc Deschamps.)
But now, must congratulate you again, Sig. Perini, for the up-to-the-minute information on Bertone & David Wilkie! Will they possibly be at Paris with running example of B.A.T.11? Do you know whether or not Elisabetta Farmeschi is still handling their PR? (Bertone badly need to update their own website….)

  • http://autodesign.socialblog.us Giancarlo Perini

Thank you Scorpione. I will contact them soon. As for the David Wilkie report is just a matter of good luck (and soem friends). The BAT 11 will is not yet a running car. The model is likely to be exhibited at the Los Angeles Motor Show. Elisabetta is no longer with Carrozzeria Bertone. Daniele Cornil has joined Pininfarina. They need to update their web, right. But first the need to fix a lot more. Let’s hope Mrs. Lilli Bertone realises that dreams not always come true and that companies can do well even with different shareholderd and management. Ciao.

  • http://autodesign.socialblog.us Giancarlo Perini

David. You get both addresses separately. Ciao

  • David Rodriguez

    Gent.mo Sig. Perini,

Please, send me both email address whenever you can. Grazie.

  • Nicola Materazzi

  • http://autodesign.socialblog.us Giancarlo Perini

David, I did send you the e-mail the very moment I confirmed this to you on this blog. Something must be wrong. Please send me a message to my private e-mail and I shall try again.
I am very happy to see that the (small) community is interacting in such a friedly and constructive style. let me suggest that you post your translation into English of Materazzi’s comment on this blog, so that other member of the community can read it in a language they might understand better.
This is the magic of internet.
    Ciao

  • David Rodriguez

    Dear Gian Carlo,

I am emailing you right next. Thank you.

  • David Rodriguez

    Dear Mr. Materazzi,

thank you very much for your words regarding the Emotion.

I would very much love to ask you whether the Emotion was firstly shown to Artioli in a Lotus ‘form’ already, or if it was a ‘Bugatti’ before being ‘converted’ to a Lotus after Artioli rejected it as a Bugatti.

Also, I would love to know whether there were in the design table subsequent plans for further versions of the EB110, beyond the SS and LM variants. Thank you very much.
