Maria Paola and Alfredo Stola of Studiotorino simply could not resist the temptation to offer their own interpretation of the super-trendy Fiat 500.

First Maria Paola was asked by a private entrepreneur to help with the customizing of a “very luxurious” tuning of his own Fiat 500 called, certainly not by chance “Pepita” (Italian for Golden Nugget).
However, Maria Paola and Alfredo Stola had given themselves a different mission and rather than rushing with any idea that could be just charming enough they looked for along time for the right idea. An idea that would match the spirit and soul of the Fiat 500, and that would give the iconic car a sharper and even more iconic connotation matching with another Italian icon.
They have worked on this for almost one year and eventually opted for a new sort of “cross-over”.
Not in terms of body architecture but rather in cultural terms. A cross-over between industrial design, craftsmanship and graphic art.
This is exactly what the new Fiat 500 Diabolika is going to be.
Fiat is providing the work of industrial design, the Turin based Mycrom (www.mycrom.it) which specialise in digital printing on textiles and other materials) has developed the know-how and expertise to reproduce on high quality leather the artworks delivered by Astorina (www.diabolik.it), the Italian publishing company that created the famous Diabolik cartoon series now in its 46th year of continuous publication.
In the historical cartoon, that Italians love as much as the original Fiat 500, Diabolik, their bad-boy hero drives a dark blue Jaguar E type coupé.
Soon Diabolik and his girl-friend Eva Kant will be on board a series of very special Fiat 500 Diabolika, according to an announcement by Studiotorino. The very special Fiat 500 Diabolika will be officially unveiled in Torino on September 12th, within the frame of the “Torino World Design Capital 2008”.
The popularity of Diabolik is going to expand world-wide next September as, reportedly. Dolce&Gabbana are launching a collection of their own dedicated to the cartoon hero.
